personality:
Okina is the head of the Aoiya Restaurant which is run by the members of the Oniwaban-shu stationed in Kyoto. He can change moods almost instantly, going from insanely jolly at one moment to very serious and wise the next. He is Misao's guardian and has always looked after her. Despite his old age and appearance Okina is still a very skilled ninja. He proves to be a valuable resource to Kenshin, helping him locate his old master Seijuro Hiko as well as leading him to the keeper of another sakabatou after the first one is destroyed. Okina also likes pretty young women and can act like a bit of a dirty old man sometimes. Although Okina had always been on good terms with Aoshi Shinomori in the past (see below), he does not agree with Aoshi's mad quest for vengeance on Kenshin. This conflict of interest quickly turns deadly...
past:
Back when he still in his prime, Okina was the only member of the Oniwaban-shu who could go head to head with the old Okashira (leader). He was almost made the next Okashira of the Oniwaban-shu but he thought it would be better to let someone young take over instead and so he suggested Aoshi (who was 15 at the time).
